Jean Foulds

I trained as a teacher in the mid-sixties and my main subject was Art with associated English. Over the years I became fascinated by the novel and often amazingly articulate symbols used by young children, revealing their knowledge and concepts through their drawings as they grow towards our culture.  I developed a great respect for the capacity to convey information and emotion with the minimum of symbols. I continued to find time for my art throughout a busy career by attending a weekly evening class at the local Art School, and when I retired in 2002 I joined Russell Hedges’ abstract painting group at Penzance School of Art. Since then, my work has become entirely abstract or semi-abstract.

Recent work includes constructed clay sculptures (slabwork), painting and drawing.
