Rebecca English
Having attended Portsmouth college of art, I then moved to Galway in Ireland where I exhibited in galleries and had my first daughter. I then decided to move back to England and was drawn to Cornwall, particularly West Penwith where I now reside in Sennen. After having my other children, I then decided to pursue ceramics and attended Penzance School of Art, learning how to throw on the wheel. After many years of creating pots, I then worked assisting a local potter, D Frances, learning more about glaze and technique, as well as honing my skills in throwing. I now have my own studio in Penzance where I create and run workshops.
Whilst I enjoy the harmony between throwing and slabbing, my approach tends to be quite instinctive and I enjoy just seeing what happens as I work. My inspiration is the colours of the Cornish wild seas; the craggy rocks; and the veins in the stones as I walk the coastline on a daily basis – as well as the wild Cornish hedgerows.
